As they say, you never know when a memory’s being made until you look back and smile about it. It’s a true holiday when everyone is happy and smiling around the table. With that in mind, I started reminiscing about Passover celebrations when I was growing up. I remember going to Seder at my grandparents’ house, which always meant a “new clothes” shopping trip a couple weeks prior!
Once the perfect shirt and pants had been bought, they would remain in the closet until the day arrived for us to dress up. My brother, sister and I would climb into the back of our car for the three-hour drive. Our parents reminded us not to mess up our new clothes! At my grandparents’ house, we greeted everyone—including those great-aunts and uncles we only had briefly met before. The table seemed to have a never-ending supply of food, and I always looked forward to enjoying the grape juice “wine” with my family.

Today, Passover in the Friedland household means that we’re all together, sharing our version of a traditional Seder. As my wife cooks everything with passion and love, the smells that waft throughout the house early in the day prepare us for our evening Seder. We each share for a minute or two what has happened since that last time at our Passover table. I can’t help but smile!
